FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C., November 14, 2024 — The Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) congratulates Senator Marco Rubio on his appointment as Secretary of State by President Donald J. Trump. Senator Rubio has been a steadfast supporter of the Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD), launched in 2020 under the Trump administration, which unites nations in their shared commitment to advance the health and thriving of women and girls, strengthen families, protect national sovereignty, and reaffirm that there is no international right to abortion. His leadership as an honorary co-chair of the third and fourth anniversary commemoration of the GCD in 2023, along with his co-sponsorship of a Senate resolution urging the United States to rejoin the Declaration, underscores his commitment to these values.
IWH is confident that, as Secretary of State, Senator Rubio will continue to champion policies that prioritize optimal health for women and families worldwide. We look forward to partnering with him and the new administration to build upon the vital work of the GCD and fulfill President Trump’s commitment to rejoining the GCD .
