FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C., August 15, 2023 – The Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) this week announced the recent appointment of Dr. Alma Golden as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Under Dr. Golden’s leadership, IWH will continue to expand its influence and expertise as a leader in promoting the optimal health and thriving of women and girls in the United States and around the world.

“I am delighted to join Valerie Huber in advancing the important work of the Institute for Women’s Health. Improving health outcomes throughout the entirety of a woman’s life requires innovation and a continual commitment to delivering solutions that meet their most pressing healthcare needs,” said Dr. Golden.“Having worked on health programming for many years, IWH is truly unique in the way it prioritizes healthcare improvements, and I’m looking forward to contributing to their efforts in making a genuine difference in the lives of women and girls.

Prior to joining IWH, Dr. Golden had a 25-year tenure serving in numerous prominent roles in healthcare policy and administration, adolescent education, and pediatric care – including in low income, high needs areas with limited access to healthcare. Previously, she led the Office of Population Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for four years under the Bush administration as the Deputy Assistant Secretary, administering nationwide programs addressing teen pregnancy, sexual risk avoidance education, embryo adoption, and family planning, along with serving as the lead health policy advisor for Ben Carson’s presidential campaign. She went on to serve in a variety of positions in private pediatrics, indigent health services, and academic medicine and public health policy, most recently as the White House Appointed, Senate-Confirmed Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Global Health at USAID.

“I am fortunate to have an incredible team working alongside me at the Institute of Women’s Health driving our vision and mission, and I could not be more thrilled to have Dr. Alma Golden join our efforts as Chief Operating Officer,”  said Valerie Huber, founder and president for the Institute for Women’s Health. “For years, I’ve admired Alma’s work and have had the privilege of calling her both colleague and friend. I’m happy to now have the opportunity to work alongside her to promote women and girls’ health and thriving at every stage of life.”
