FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Coalition representing nearly 2 billion people celebrates six years of growth while outlining plans for its next chapter of international expansion

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Institute for Women’s Health will host and U.S. Members of Congress will co-chair the 6th Annual Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD) Commemoration Luncheon, annually held on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Complex. It will bring together government officials, ambassadors, diplomats, policy leaders, and international partners to celebrate the continued growth of the Geneva Consensus Declaration.

What began in 2019 with six founding nations has grown into a coalition of 41 countries spanning every region of the world and representing nearly 2 billion people. The event will commemorate six years of cooperation and present the coalition’s vision for future expansion under the theme: “Grounded in Shared Values. Amplifying Our Voice.”

President Donald Trump rejoined the Geneva Consensus Declaration during his first 100 hours in office in January 2025, restoring U.S. participation, partnership, and leadership within the coalition.

WHEN:

  • Tuesday, September 15, 2026 | 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. EDT

WHERE:

  • U.S. Capitol Complex, Washington, D.C. 20003

WHO:

  • Government officials from Geneva Consensus Declaration member nations (to be announced)
  • Diplomats and ambassadors
  • U.S. Members of Congress
  • Members of the Trump Administration
  • International and domestic policy leaders
  • Representatives from the Institute for Women’s Health
  • Additional speakers to be announced

WHY IT MATTERS:

As debates continue over women’s health, family policy, abortion, and national sovereignty in international institutions, the Geneva Consensus Declaration is the only nation-to-nation sovereignty and values-based coalition of its kind, growing from six founding nations to 41 member countries over six years. Organizers will highlight the coalition’s expansion and discuss opportunities for additional nations to join in the coming years.

The Geneva Consensus Declaration affirms four core principles:

  • Promoting the health and well-being of women and girls across the lifespan
  • Recognizing the family as the fundamental unit of society
  • Reaffirming that there is no international right to abortion and that each nation has the sovereign authority to determine its own laws
  • Protecting national sovereignty and genuine human rights
