WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 22, 2025). For the first time since the founding of the Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD) under the first Trump Administration in 2020, the United States will celebrate the coalition’s fifth anniversary today along with scores of nations as they gather in Washington D.C. for the annual GCD celebration.

A letter from President Trump will be read in which he expresses his ongoing support, saying in part:

“During my first term as President, I was proud to commit the United States of America to the Geneva Consensus Declaration for the first time. Now, since returning to the presidency, I am just as proud to exercise American leadership by rejoining the Declaration after the previous administration withdrew.”

America’s return to the coalition brings renewed strength to this alliance of nations committed to:

  • Protecting national sovereignty on social and health issues
  • Promoting women’s health
  • Preserving the family as the foundational unit of society
  • Affirming that there is no international right to abortion

“The Geneva Consensus Declaration affirms basic principles that all life is sacred and there is no international right to abortion. The GCD has continued to grow, with 40 signatories all committed to upholding the protection of families and the unborn. I am thrilled that President Trump rejoined the GCD within the first week of his presidency and look forward to the day that all nations come together to recognize these fundamental truths,” said Senator Steve Daines (MT), leader on every Senate pro-GCD resolution.

Senator James Lankford (OK), who has spoken at every GCD commemoration since its inception, emphasized the historic nature of this moment:

“For five consecutive years, I’ve witnessed the Geneva Consensus Declaration grow from a bold idea into a global movement. Despite unprecedented opposition, this coalition has proven that principles grounded in sovereignty, health, and human dignity cannot be extinguished by political winds. This fifth anniversary isn’t just a celebration, it’s a declaration that we are ready to transform the GCD into an indomitable force that will shape international policy for generations to come.”

The Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) will present its highest honor, the 2025 Distinguished Award of International Honor, to Hungary for its exemplary service as GCD Secretariat. H.E. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, will accept the award on behalf of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

“The Geneva Consensus Declaration would not have survived without Hungary’s steadfast leadership as Secretariat since 2023,” said Valerie Huber, President of the Institute for Women’s Health. “When others faltered, Hungary stepped up. Today we honor their courage and dedication to the sustenance and growth of the GCD.”

The luncheon will feature remarks from

  • Members of Congress serving as Honorary Co-Chairs
  • Trump Administration officials
  • Foreign government representatives from Burundi, Guinea, Hungary, and Indonesia.

In addition, the gathering will celebrate the Republic of Guinea’s adhesion to the GCD, bringing the coalition total to 40 nations, representing more than 2.4 billion people.

“We are proud to welcome Guinea to this growing alliance of sovereign nations,” said Hungarian Minister Péter Szijjártó.  “With America back and new nations joining, the Geneva Consensus Declaration’s momentum is undeniable. The future has never been brighter for our coalition.”

The Institute for Women’s Health recognizes the GCD as a key activator to unite nations to advance authentic health for women and families. Huber sees a remarkable opportunity:

“ Our goal is clear: grow from 40 to 80 nations within three years, creating an invincible force for women’s health, strong families, and national sovereignty that no international pressure can break.”
